Ancient yogic wisdom for modern emotional and mental health

Yoga Psychology merges the 5,000-year-old philosophy of Raja Yoga with contemporary psychology to create a holistic approach to emotional well-being. It recognizes that optimal mental health is best established by the integration of the body, mind and spirit.

The Three Pillars of Yoga Psychology

Body Conditioning

Body Conditioning includes the practice of yogic postures (Asana’s) Breath Control, (pranayama) and pratyahara (sense withdrawal/  or more commonly known as deep relaxation).

All three modalities help to crate a state of balance, stability, and internal calm.

Self-Study (Svadhyaya)

Helps clients increase awareness, emotional insight, and self-understanding through:

  • Concentration exercises (Dharana) - clients learn to focus their attention intentionally, strengthening the mind’s ability to remain steady and present
  • Meditation (Dhyana) - helps deepen the self-study process, helps individuals increase intuition  and enhance emotional equanimity
  • Contemplation and introspection (Samadhi) - encourage deeper reflection on patterns, values, and life direction
  • Recognizing personal strengths and internal blocks -  begin to better understand how their thoughts and emotions influence behavior.

When practiced consistently, these concentration and meditation techniques improve focus, intuition, emotional regulation, and creative problem-solving. They form the internal framework for lasting psychological transformation.

Attentive Lifestyle

The Attentive Lifestyle component helps clients align their daily choices with their values, intentions, and long-term well-being. This includes developing a greater awareness of how one treats oneself and others, and how everyday actions either support or undermine mental and emotional stability.

Clients learn to cultivate compassion in their self-talk and behavior, respond to relationships with greater compassion and mindfulness, and establish healthy boundaries that honor their needs. As they integrate these practices into daily life, they begin making decisions that reinforce emotional steadiness rather than amplify stress. Over time, this alignment fosters a more grounded, intentional way of living.
